CAR TROUBLES

guess who had her first car breakdown!! I was out running errands with my mom yesterday and as I was turning a corner through an intersection the car gave out on us. people were real jerks about it, we got multiple people cussing us out and flipping us off as we tried to get it out of the way and one pickup truck even almost rear-ended us, but we were able to get it out of the road without any injuries or damage. it turns out it was probably the transmission fluid pump that gave out, and since the turn I was taking was up a hill that explains why I couldn't get it to go forward. for now I'm back to driving my old car (stopped driving it cuz it has pretty poor grip in wet conditions and it's winter rn), I didn't realize how much I missed driving it until I did again last night

VALENTINE'S DAY

welp Valentine's Day has come and gone, and I didn't really do anything for it. This was the first Valentine's in five years I've been single for, as I only realized I'm a lesbian over last summer and my ex is a guy, which was uh. kinda very awkward. I'm doing fine though, I don't actively enjoy being single but I'm not like upset over it or anything. I just didn't do anything for yesterday cuz I had to focus on doing college homework lol

I'm hoping I can find myself another partner eventually, I haven't really got many options where I live rn cuz it's pretty rural and there's quite a few conservative homophobes out here unfortunately, but if everything goes to plan and I can get enough money then I should be moving to attend college in a more queer-friendly area in the fall and I can look for a potential partner there.

Finnick's random website building tips: if you make edits to your css code but the site isn't changing no matter how drastic a change you make, clear your browser cache. the amount of times I've gotten frustrated over not being able to get this site to do what I want only to find it wasn't changing because of the stupid cookies keeping it locked into the layout I don't want is too many. anyway in other news I figured out how grids work!! this is gonna make layout for the site so much easier to set up and fix, hopefully I'll be able to unbreak the mobile version of the home page now!

update 10:00 pm- I FIXED THE BLOG IMAGES ON MOBILE!!

Smaller update today, just making some parts of the site more mobile friendly! The Home page is now properly aligned on phones, and the Extras tab is cleaned up to the best of my ability too (the only thing I can't fix is the Epic Webring window cuz I didn't make that). The About, Art, and Projects tabs were already mobile friendly, as well as the Blog, apart from the images (I tried to fix that but they wouldn't budge). After this, I just need to make some adjustments to the Characters pages, the base Shrines page, and the Cipher shrine to make those mobile friendly as well. This being said, my site is designed to be primarily viewed on desktop; I'm adding these tweaks so that way a computer is not required to view the page, but it does look better when viewed on one.

update 5:55 pm- tried to add something fun to the homepage and set up the code so it would line up properly and it broke on mobile. idk how to fix it my flex columns have a massive gap between them but adjusting the widths at all just breaks it further and the left column refuses to go wider than half the screen despite setting the width to 100% so I can't just put the side stuff at the bottom so it looks right, if anyone knows how to fix this please reach out

update 6:05 pm- ok bandaid fix has been applied. it doesn't look great on mobile but it's not outright broken anymore. still would like some help with the massive gap between the columns thing though if y'all know what's causing that

GRIEF (TW: PET DEATH)

man I wish I could even just think about my dog Lucy without immediately starting to cry. family brought up memories of her and they were able to talk about her just fine without crying, why can't I? it's been months now, I don't want this to hurt anymore. I want to be able to think about her without it always immediately making me sad to do so.

for context, she had to be put down last October because she had one of those one-in-a-million super severe side effects from her heartworm prevention meds and the only possible way she could have been kept alive was inhumane to do to her. she was starting to get up there in age but she wasn't super old, we were supposed to have several more years with her yet. I've barely told anyone about this because I just didn't want to think about it at the time and there just hasn't been a point where I felt like I could mention it since. I just wish it would stop hurting, I've already accepted she's gone and that there was nothing else we could do without making her suffer for the rest of her life. I wanna make a shrine page for her here, but I can't because I can't even think about her without crying. I hope the pain lessens soon so I can.

I used a pair of pants I haven't worn in a while in my outfit today, and I noticed this morning that there were a couple strands of her fur on my thigh. I never thought I'd miss brushing her fur off my clothes so much.

THOUGHTS FROM THE DRIVE HOME

Ok right off the bat just gonna say, no I wasn't coding and driving, this is just a compilation after the fact of what I was thinking about on the way home. pay attention to the road when you're driving y'all even if you got one of them self-driving cars, if your Torment Nexus decides it's morbin time you wanna be able to catch it and stop it in its tracks before anyone gets hurt. anyway driving while playing mariokart music is such a vibe, especially if you're going down one of the higher speed limit roads. I also got one of the seasonal Dunkin coffees to try, and man it's been a while since I ended up liking a coffee this much lol. The one I got was the Toxic Ex-presso, which is an iced mocha espresso drink with chocolate foam and raspberry syrup, and it's really well suited to my taste preferences. I really like chocolate and raspberry together, and the bitterness from the espresso made it taste like dark chocolate, which was really nice. The other specialty coffee I ended up really liking was a bananas foster latte that the old cafe at my college used to make, it was a latte with banana syrup, whipped cream topping, and white chocolate drizzle, and it was really nice, I miss it. They changed the cafe on campus this year to be run by a local business instead, which yay supporting small businesses, but also they aren't making the drinks the old cafe made anymore. I'm also unfortunately not very big on the new cafe's coffee either, all their coffee has this weird molasses-honey aftertaste, and it's strong enough to overpower some other flavors in the drink, like mint. I feel bad cuz I wanna give them more support, but I just don't like their coffee :(

More changes! I've cleaned up the Home tab a good bit so it's a proper landing page now, signed up for IMood and added the little popup thing there, and I've also finally got a proper gallery under the Art tab instead of just one image! If I set up my code correctly it should be mobile friendly too, but I haven't gotten the chance to check it yet.

so I picked up a new css trick lately, if you look at the post backgrounds here and translucent backgrounds across the site you'll notice that they've got gradients now! I've also sent in applications to a few more webrings, and I'm in the No AI webring now too! (technically I got into that one before the Splatoon one but the email response went to spam so I didn't see it until today)

If any of y'all have taken a peek at my Extras tab recently, you might've noticed some new stuff there. That's because I'm starting to join some webrings! I've already officially been brought into the Splatoon webring, and I've sent in applications to quite a few others as well. While I'm waiting on those though, y'all should go check out the other sites in the Splatoon webring!

Another site update! If you take a look at my Shrines tab, you'll notice a new page linked there! I love Splatoon, and Cipher is my favorite character from it, so it felt fitting to make a shrine for it the first one that goes up there. I might make some edits to the site in the future as I've asked a couple other artists for permission to use their pieces in the fanart section and am still waiting on responses back, but otherwise the page is done.

here's the filled out bingo card! overall the direct was a fun watch, the fact that everyone was simping for clown Hugh was really funny. it was definitely more customization focused, I love all the new features they showed us, but I wish they showed a bit more about Mii families and anything about travelers. big wins for the queer community though we got gay people AND nonbinary miis, that part got me the most excited out of the whole thing lol

also genuinely surprised we didn't see a switch 2 version in that. I was really expecting that to be there but I'm glad it wasn't

Site update! I've gotten basic formatting down on all the pages now, as well as added a couple extra pages on the top bar. I've also added a guestbook in the Extras section if you wanna leave a message! Site updates will be a bit slower from here on out due to the next upcoming updates requiring more work put into them before they can go up, as well as the fact that college has started up again.

ok random pet peeve time. one thing that really bugs me is how pineapple flavor is always paired with coconut flavor in everything. like yeah I get it y'all like your pina coladas. but I don't. I think that pineapple and coconut are two flavors that do not mix at all. and so when I buy a pineapple raspberry sparkling water drink I don't want some surprise coconut flavor hidden in there too. I want pineapple. and I want raspberry. that is it.

okay this is the proper first post lol. Hello to everyone who's already checked out my site so far, there's a lot more of y'all than I initially anticipated! As you could probably already tell this site is still an active construction zone, so things will be looking cleaner when you next return. In the meantime, I'm also on Bluesky under the tag @finnickoffishial.bsky.social if you wanna follow me over there! I'm pretty inactive at the moment, but that's mainly because the college semester just started back up and my main focus outside of that is putting this site together. I'm going to have more interactive stuff on this site by the time it's done (I'm hoping to add a guestbook at some point :3), but at the current moment there is best place to reach out to me if you wanna chat.
